[ ...should Dante be trusted in his current mood? Vergil doesn't think so. But he doesn't warn Alastor - if the demon wants to be around, he needs to learn. ]

[He gives Dante's ear a rough tug at that last word, to emphasize his point.]

Ow! I'm grateful, I promise. Look, I'll even show you.

[ He leans in and presses a gentle kiss to Alastor's cheek. Vergil, for his own part, is not surprised. He just wishes he were somewhere else. ]

[Fiiiine, have a hug, Dante.]

[ Wait, Alastor wasn't bothered by the kiss? Vergil is baffled. Maybe the demon can actually stand his brother? He finds himself grateful.

Dante, in the meantime, beams at the hug. He doesn't quite understand what he did wrong, but at least he did the right thing to make up for it. ]

I'm sure I could come up with worse, but I'll make sure not to try!

You'd better not. Otherwise, I'll have to think twice about going out of my way for you.

[He gives Dante a light swat over the head, then a shoving nudge.]

Now move. I thought you were hungry?

Yes! [ Dante rushes towards the kitchen, expecting to be followed. But Vergil grabs Alastor's arm before he can. His face is serious. ]

I don't know what changed, but you better take proper care of him. If you don't...

[ He lays down a threatening silence, then lets go and heads to the kitchen as well. ]

[Ah, the protective sibling routine...not that Alastor's ever been an easy one to intimidate. He just shrugs and continues in to the kitchen. Hopefully it's not too cluttered.]

Hope you guys like chicken. It's pretty good for last minute cooking.

[ It's.... half cluttered? It's obvious that things were placed recklessly, but also that while Dante was putting the groceries away, he attempted to fix the place, too. ]

I don't really remember what chicken is like? But if you're making it, it's got to be good.

[ Vergil levels him with a stare. ]

You do know there are fast food places that sell chicken, right? It's not just pizza.

[But fine, he'll get to work on the food. He does occasionally have to pause and consider, but around half an hour later, he's serving a pan of chicken breasts in a creamy herb sauce.]

Chicken also comes as a pizza topping. [ Vergil can't help but point this out. Dante ignores him, choosing to pay attention to the cooking instead. When it's finished, he looks dazzled. ]

You're a wizard at this.

Compared to you, maybe. This isn't even all that fancy. Buuuut it is pretty decent, as far as quick recipes go.

Just accept the compliment. [ Dante sticks his tongue out at Alastor, then serves each of the three a piece of chicken from the pan. Vergil has reserved his own judgement, but when he tries some, he does rather like it. ]

Better than torched hell meat.

Just saying, there's much better food out there. Might be a bit much for your underused taste buds, though.

[He makes himself comfortable with his own plate. Despite his insistence that it doesn't meet his standards for amazing, he does seem pleased that everyone seems to like it.]

Most demons aren't exactly fine dining, it's true. There are reasons I prefer eating like a human...speaking of which, did they have the dessert I asked for? I know it's not exactly a stock flavor, but...

[Chocolate strawberry cake can't be THAT niche, can it?]

They had it. [ Well. Vergil had found it necessary to search multiple stores for it, but he's not going to say that. He doesn't want to be caught paying extra attention for his brother or anything. ]

Dessert? [ Dante smiles brightly. ] What is it?

You'll find out. [ Vergil scolds. ] Let it be a surprise.

Wouldn't want you forgetting your dinner over it, after all. I'm sure you'll like it, just leave it at that until it's time to serve it.

[ Dante pushes away the thoughts that come automatically, to try to make plans to sneak a look. No! He's capable of being good and he can prove it! Damn.

So he nods and works on the chicken. It doesn't take long before both of the twins are done - they're still ravenously hungry from going so long without proper food. ]

[He's not nearly as starving, though it has been a while since he's had proper home cooking. Too much time on the road, ever since he left Jadow...but he's also excited for dessert himself, so he doesn't take too long over dinner.]

I think it's fair at this point to say the dishes are your job, Dante.

....maybe we'll switch to paper? [ It's a joke, not hopefulness. ] Nah, I'll do them.

You better. [ Vergil either didn't catch that it was a joke, or just doesn't care. ] Everyone else did a lot of work.

Can't cook in a paper pan. [He waves his fork, like a wagging finger.] Dessert first, though. I think we can at least get away with rinsing off and re-using our plates.

Here, let me have them. [ Dante has been given an assignment and now he's determined to do it. This is his way of showing off in front of Alastor, since apparently his sword skills weren't enough. So he grabs all the plates, rinses them (at least the water is still on) and brings them back. ]

So, what's dessert?

Let's see, where'd he put it...

[He pokes through some of the bags, then produces a chocolate frosted cake topped with fresh strawberries.]

Here we go. I've got something of a weakness for chocolate, in case you couldn't guess.

[ While Dante has a weakness for - ] Strawberries!

[ Yes, he can tell the weakness for chocolate, and he's going to have to remember that, but he can't help but get excited about the strawberries. ]

It's a good combination. Honestly, I'm surprised cakes like this aren't as common as strawberry shortcake.

[Not that he doesn't love whipped cream, too...that just might be asking a bit much of a store bought cake.

He sets the cake down on the table and grabs a knife.]
