Compared to you, maybe. This isn't even all that fancy. Buuuut it is pretty decent, as far as quick recipes go.

Just accept the compliment. [ Dante sticks his tongue out at Alastor, then serves each of the three a piece of chicken from the pan. Vergil has reserved his own judgement, but when he tries some, he does rather like it. ]

Better than torched hell meat.

Just saying, there's much better food out there. Might be a bit much for your underused taste buds, though.

[He makes himself comfortable with his own plate. Despite his insistence that it doesn't meet his standards for amazing, he does seem pleased that everyone seems to like it.]

Most demons aren't exactly fine dining, it's true. There are reasons I prefer eating like a human...speaking of which, did they have the dessert I asked for? I know it's not exactly a stock flavor, but...

[Chocolate strawberry cake can't be THAT niche, can it?]

They had it. [ Well. Vergil had found it necessary to search multiple stores for it, but he's not going to say that. He doesn't want to be caught paying extra attention for his brother or anything. ]

Dessert? [ Dante smiles brightly. ] What is it?

You'll find out. [ Vergil scolds. ] Let it be a surprise.

Wouldn't want you forgetting your dinner over it, after all. I'm sure you'll like it, just leave it at that until it's time to serve it.

[ Dante pushes away the thoughts that come automatically, to try to make plans to sneak a look. No! He's capable of being good and he can prove it! Damn.

So he nods and works on the chicken. It doesn't take long before both of the twins are done - they're still ravenously hungry from going so long without proper food. ]

[He's not nearly as starving, though it has been a while since he's had proper home cooking. Too much time on the road, ever since he left Jadow...but he's also excited for dessert himself, so he doesn't take too long over dinner.]

I think it's fair at this point to say the dishes are your job, Dante.

....maybe we'll switch to paper? [ It's a joke, not hopefulness. ] Nah, I'll do them.

You better. [ Vergil either didn't catch that it was a joke, or just doesn't care. ] Everyone else did a lot of work.

Can't cook in a paper pan. [He waves his fork, like a wagging finger.] Dessert first, though. I think we can at least get away with rinsing off and re-using our plates.

Here, let me have them. [ Dante has been given an assignment and now he's determined to do it. This is his way of showing off in front of Alastor, since apparently his sword skills weren't enough. So he grabs all the plates, rinses them (at least the water is still on) and brings them back. ]

So, what's dessert?

Let's see, where'd he put it...

[He pokes through some of the bags, then produces a chocolate frosted cake topped with fresh strawberries.]

Here we go. I've got something of a weakness for chocolate, in case you couldn't guess.

[ While Dante has a weakness for - ] Strawberries!

[ Yes, he can tell the weakness for chocolate, and he's going to have to remember that, but he can't help but get excited about the strawberries. ]

It's a good combination. Honestly, I'm surprised cakes like this aren't as common as strawberry shortcake.

[Not that he doesn't love whipped cream, too...that just might be asking a bit much of a store bought cake.

He sets the cake down on the table and grabs a knife.]

So try not to steal all of them, 'kay?

[ Oops, Dante is already reaching for a strawberry. But Vergil smacks his hand away, before he can actually get any off the cake. ]

He's been fond of these since he was a little child. [ Vergil hates childhood memories, but this one isn't really offensive. ]

Now you mention it, I do think I heard something about a strawberry sundae habit?

[As though that's not exactly the reason he asked for strawberries.]

Wait. You got the strawberry part for me? [ It wasn't just coincidence? Dante looks extremely happy while Vergil stares at the table and considers hitting his own head on it. ]

I didn't say that! [Though his violet ears do.] Just that I remember Patty mentioning you going out for strawberry sundaes.

Right, okay. [ Aaaand Dante's ready to change the subject now, before Vergil finds out about Patty and really teases him. ] So, uh, let's dig in?

[ Vergil gives him a suspicious look. ]

[A raise of an eyebrow, and is that a hint of a smirk? Well, looks like he's found something Dante is embarrassed about. He'll just tuck that away for later use.]

It's not exactly getting any fresher.

[So yes, he will cut three slices out of the cake. Three roughly equal slices, since he knows Dante would pounce on the biggest.]

[ Dante eyeballs each, giving them a careful look over. Finally deciding, he pushes what he thinks to be the smallest one towards Vergil.

Vergil, having gotten used to this over their lifetimes, just sighs. ]

Measure all you want, I did my best to make them even.

[And now he's sitting down with his own.]

[carvemyname]

[ Dante looks satisfied with his slice and sits down with it. ] Jackpot! [ He says gleefully, then starts eating. ]

[ Vergil reaches out with his hand and slaps Dante over the back of the head, but this has no impact on him or his enjoyment. ]

[He doesn't even bother trying to hide his amusement at the bit of sibling squabbling. There's something a little wistful to it though...it's times like these that he does kind of envy humans.]

In joke, I take it?

Something Dante has said all of his life. I'm surprised you haven't heard it yet.

[ Dante mumbles something but it's indiscernible through the food. ]

Probably just missed it while I was stuck here...

[It's still...a little bit of a sore spot, but Dante's apologized, so he lets it go with a shrug. He'd much rather pay attention to the cake, and how delicious and moist it is.

When he's done, he leaves Dante to the dishes, and heads off to find somewhere he can properly lounge while he writes in his diary...]
