Dante might be oblivious, but I know the signs of someone trying to play at being more selfish than he is. It's really only recently that I myself realized how few favors I was really doing myself.
You only say that because you haven't fought me yet.
[ Vergil is the stronger of the twins, the more practiced! He will stand by this until the day he dies. Right now he's in pajamas, but he would duel even now!
[He is, however, putting his shades back on. The idea is to go somewhere far away from human eyes, yes, but he's really more comfortable with his own covered.]
[ Vergil disappears and comes back in a few minutes, dressed in this top, these boots and black trousers. He feels a little odd, even though his outfit isn't quite modern. Out of place. Underdressed. He pushes all of this away and heads down the stairs, Yamato at his hip. ]
[ Someday, Vergil wants to show Alastor that he can create portals too, but - despite that urge, he's going to keep it tucked in his back pocket for now. No need to reveal something before absolutely necessary. ]
I'll go first. [ It's his way of showing that he's learning to trust Alastor, and he steps through. ]
I've never liked getting rid of them unless I have to.
[He follows after, and the portal closes behind him. The city is still visible in the distance, a speckling of light against the darkness of the desert, but it's far enough away that even they shouldn't accidentally hit anything there.]
Think about how you'd feel if you had to make your arms disappear.
I know a little of it - my demon form has wings and a tail. [ Of course, he doesn't depend on being in it the way Alastor takes to his own natural form. So really, he's not assuming he knows much. ]
Well, that's a bit what it's like. I imagine the wings and tail are kinda like extras for you, right? For me, not having them is something being missing.
Of course, there are some differences between my true form and a human body that I have an easier time putting up with. Watch.
[He calls his sword - the real one - into his hand, and a ball of violet tinted lightning envelops him. It grows to twice its original diameter, then bursts in a gust of wind to reveal his hoofed natural form.]
[ Vergil feels a little small. He's a little over six feet tall and this form of Alastor's could probably be estimated to be more like twelve feet. But height differences have never been a thing that deterred him. ]
Do you prefer my human or devil form, to fight with?
[He grins, baring a mouth full of fangs as he shifts the positions of his hooves. Even as he speaks, dark storm clouds begin to gather overhead in defiance of the region's arid climate.]
Take me anything less than seriously, and you might just regret it.
Oh, I don't plan to, Lord Alastor. [ Vergil takes his stance, drawing his sword up into a guard. This is already more thought than he gets in most battles - he hopes this demon isn't looking down on him. ]
Going to make it rain? Is this for a show?
[ He quickly steps closer, bringing Yamato forward in a slicing movement. ]
Sorry, I've never been able to resist a bit of drama.
[His size doesn't indicate a lack of speed on his own part, and he brings his own blade up to parry. A flick of his free hand conjures another sword that flies at Vergil from above the storm demon's head.]
And that would be Emperor Alastor. Lords answered to me.
Emperor Alastor. [ Vergil's sword is parried and he quickly brings it up to knock away the second sword. He's staying small and human, at least for now - it'll get him between however many extra swords are called, easy. ]
I have a few questions. Would curiosity about the cat kill me?
[The sword is easily deflected, but vanishes in a burst of electricity as soon as it hits the ground. He seems to be hoping that's enough to keep Vergil's guard too high to block a low kick, aimed at his knees.]
Can't guarantee I'll answer anything too personal, but I won't take offense.
[He moves inhumanly fast himself, turning the kick into a whirl and a heavy swing of his tail. It's not much of a weapon at human size, but it's significantly bulkier now.]
Humans called me that once, yeah. Just don't believe everything you read.

Sure you don't. As if you aren't looking out for Dante in ways you don't think he'll notice.

[ Vergil harumphs. He is playing entirely clueless, but the comment is like a stab, he knows he's been weak in this way. ]

You better not tell him anything.
[ Vergil looks fierce, now. ]

[He tosses a bite of popcorn into his mouth with a smirk.]
And not because of your implied threat. You might be Sparda's kids, but I'm not afraid of either of you.

[Either way, he stands up and puts his bowl of popcorn down in his seat.]
We'll wanna head out into the desert. Last time I really cut loose in the middle of a town, things got a little messy.
no subject
[ At least Vergil admits it. He think about the desert, then looks at his attire, rethinking it a little. ]
...let me get dressed.
[ Besides, he has to grab Yamato. ]

Ready when you are.

I don't feel like hiding my wings for this trip, so how about we skip the scenic route?
[He holds out a hand, and space subtly distorts to create a portal into the desert.]

But I cannot imagine losing my arms.
[ He hates the idea, thanks. ]

Zeus. Based on you, yes?
[ He summons several magical swords and throws them forward at Alastor, mostly as a test. It's not a serious attempt. ]
